European Structural Investment Fund (ESIF)
The European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) is the European Union's main funding programme for supporting growth and jobs. SWLEP's ESIF programme will invest to help businesses compete and grow, and improve people's skills and employment prospects.
Our ESIF strategy was developed following an extensive period of consultation with over 15 partners in Swindon and Wiltshire during 2013-14. The strategy sets out how the £78 million investment would be used to create more than 1,500 jobs, help 2,500 businesses to innovate, compete and grow, and support over 9,000 people to progress in their career.
The strategy sets out four investment themes:
- SME growth - support and advice, from start-up through to specialised services to increase competitiveness of local businesses
- Innovation for sustainable growth - focus on the strengths of local business sectors including ICT, Life Sciences and Manufacturing
- Skills for growth - helping businesses develop skilled workforces that will support long-term sustained growth of the local economy
- Skills for inclusion - helping people to overcome barriers to employment, to enter and stay in the workforce
From 2015, SWLEP's ESIF Committee will, in conjunction with Government, begin to make calls for projects which will deliver a broad range of activities related to the four themes. Each call will be publicised locally, with full information at the government's ESIF website.
